Ryan Barrett is a British model, born and raised in Ipswich Town, who has graced the pages of my blog many a time this year. And it’s no wonder really, when an average day for him might involve walking for Versace at Milan Fashion Week, or starring in one of their uber-sexy advertising campaigns alongside Brazilian supermodel Gisele. The boy is a big deal in fashion at the moment so know that you are being treated to quite the exclusive here as Ryan talks us through an average day in the life of a top male model.
“A typical day actually starts the day before, with a phone call giving you the next day’s schedule, which will either be filled with castings, go sees, fittings, actual jobs or of course, sometimes, nothing. Castings are not paid work and are more like a job interview, so you have to sell yourself and make an effort at each and every one of them. Some days you don’t know where you could be flying to or what you might be wearing or doing.
“Tomorrow I’m flying to Milan to shoot an editorial with a team there based around a Mad Max story, but I have no idea what I will be wearing or who I will be working with. This is one of the exciting things about the job; it keeps it very interesting and different, with a lot of diversity. I mean yes, I get tired of travelling and going from airport to airport, but that’s just part of the job when you’re working hard.
“I really enjoy meeting and getting to know people, so for me this is a great job. You can sometimes work with the same team a few times over, but you tend to meet a lot of different make-up artists, hairstylists, photographers and production assistants. On a shoot I normally turn up on time- of course- introduce myself and slowly work my way around the room, having little chats with everyone and finding out more details about the concept of the shoot. I can never just sit there.”
What a nice fella, right? For more chat with Ryan head on over to my blog for an interview I did with him earlier this year: http://www.myportiswaspsays.com/2012/02/interview-with-ryan-barrett.html
