August. The eighth month of the year. How can it be here already?! It feels like just yesterday that Scotcampus was battling the February frost in our fur coats and biker boots, and now here we are, in the middle of what actually feels like a real summer for a change. While there are still a few major festivals to go before the season is out – this weekend’s Belladrum, for instance – it’s Glasgow’s brand new Summer Sessions that are set to keep the music fanatics amongst us entertained this August.
Organised by Geoff Ellis, the man behind T in the Park’s 20-year success, Summer Sessions are taking place in Bellahouston Park throughout this month. Kings Of Leon are first up on the 15th, promising to bring a little Revelry to the city, with support from Manchester indie outfit, The Courteeners.
If you didn’t manage to make it to Ibiza this summer, Geoff is bringing Ibiza to you, with his next spectacular line-up on August 17th: Avicii, Tinie Tempah, Steve Aoki and GBX Experience. Can you say ‘Ushuaia’? Here’s hoping the weather is just as Balearic as the boys…
Finally, one of the biggest rap legends in the game returns to Glasgow ahead of his headline appearance at Reading & Leeds… Yup, Shady’s back – Eminem’s Summer Session takes place on the 20th, with support from Kendrick Lamar, Earlwolf, Yelawolf and Chance the Rapper.
So whether indie rock ‘n’ roll, Ibiza-style dance and house or full-on rap is your thing, there’s definitely a Summer Session that you’ll want to get involved in. With more gigs still to be announced, we’re hoping for a casual visit from Beyoncé to end our summer on a high note – literally.
