As I grew up in the nineties, there are lots of cool things that remind me of my ‘tween’ years. Whilst things like Doodle Bears, Um Bongo, blow-up furniture and scented gel pens bring back happy memories, some of the beauty products I used to use (such as Lip Smackers and hair mascara) are better off left in the past where they belong.
However, Lipcote (£3.69) is one of a few cult products that manages to make me feel nostalgic yet I still use and love it today. In case you’re not familiar with it, Lipcote is a clear liquid “sealant” that you apply after your lipstick to ‘lock in’ the colour. It’s designed to prevent lipstick fading and stops it from rubbing off when you eat, drink, talk or kiss. Essentially, it’s just like hairspray for your lips!
I love a bright lip and can often be found sporting vibrant reds and pinks in the summer and deep berry hues in the winter. Lipcote is great for using with these colours as I hate when bold colours start to fade – patchiness is not a good look!
There’s no getting away from the fact that the product smells like alcohol and tingles on application but the sensation only lasts for a few minutes and the results make it completely worth it.
Lipcote comes in a small bottle with a brush built into the lid and reminds me of a clear nail polish. One thing I always hated about it was how the liquid would become a horrible cloudy colour after ‘double dipping’ so I’ve started applying a small dab to the back of my hand first and applying it to my lips from there with a clean or disposable lip brush.
Every girl should have a bottle of this little magic potion in their makeup bag!
Lipcote are currently running a weekly competition to win a lipstick and a bottle of Lipcote. To be in with a chance of winning, all you have to do is post a picture of your best pout and tag @lovelipcote (Facebook and Twitter) or @lipcote (Instagram)
