She cut her fashion teeth on Gossip Girl, but there’s far more to Blake Lively than the Upper East Side. With new movie Savages released this month, and a rumoured wedding to Ryan Reynolds at the weekend, we take a look at her finest fashion moments.
Shooting to the world’s attention as It girl Serena van der Woodsen, on hit American TV show Gossip Girl, Blake and co-star Leighton Meester’s onscreen wardrobes evoked envy from the very first episode. While Leighton’s highly strung character, Blair Waldorf, favoured chic tailoring, cocktail dresses and those infamous headbands, Serena appeared to float through Manhattan on a polished boho cloud; all maxi dresses, floppy hats and palazzo pants. With the programme’s stylish stars being cited as the main reason to watch the show, Blake’s position on the annual best dressed lists was sealed.
However, all good things must come to an end, and this year Gossip Girl will reach its climax after six scandal-filled seasons. So with Serena’s wardrobe doors closing for the last time, what’s next for our golden gal?
The current face of Gucci Première fragrance, Blake previously starred in a series of campaign images for Chanel’s Mademoiselle handbag line, so she’s no stranger to the fashionable side of celebrity. A red carpet regular, her defining moment for many was when she stepped out at the 2011 Cinemacon Awards, looking breathtakingly gorgeous in Marchesa. The backless rouge dress was a risqué choice, but with her golden tan and endless legs, Blake looked every bit the style star.
This month sees the release of her latest venture, indie flick Savages, where she stars alongside Benicio del Toro and Brit hottie Aaron Johnson. Blake’s character, Ophelia, is at the centre of a kidnap plot, after her two pot-growing boyfriends (yep, two) get involved with a Mexican drug cartel. Far from her glossy Gossip Girl image, Blake appears freshly inked with butterfly tattoos trailing across her back and arms, flowers in her hair and a free spirited hippy style. However, her super-glossy look at the film’s premier, where she wore a figure-hugging gown by Zuhair Murad, suggests that she won’t be making any Ophelia inspired lifestyle changes anytime soon!
Then we have this morning’s news that Blake tied the knot to actor boyfriend Ryan Reynolds over the weekend. According US celeb mag People, the ceremony took place at Boone Hall Plantation in South Carolina in front of around sixty guests, with Florence Welch providing the soundtrack at the reception. The genetically blessed pair are yet to confirm the nuptials, but what we all really want to know is WHAT WAS THE DRESS LIKE?!
Savages is released in cinemas nationwide on 28th September
