Words: Jennifer Lynn
Awards season really got underway in Los Angeles last night, as the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Presented by comediennes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the glittering ceremony hosted Hollywood’s elite, with Anne Hathaway, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lawrence amongst the big winners on the night.
While we were thrilled to see some of our favourite talents pick up trophies (Lena Dunham, we’re looking at you), everyone knows it’s all about the catwalk of the red carpet. Since our invite to the Globes got lost in the post, we spent last night and the early hours of this morning ogling those Hollywood hotties via E! Entertainment, to bring you our pick of the best (and worst) frocks on offer.
The eternally gorgeous Ms. Alba stood out amongst a sea of red dresses in her skin-flattering coral fishtail frock by Oscar de la Renta. Reminiscent of Reese Witherspoon’s Zac Posen dress at last year’s Globes, Jessica teamed her gown with Harry Winston jewels and a Roger Vivier clutch, plus the unofficial hairstyle of the evening: sideswept waves.
Nashville star Hayden looked beyond amazing in oyster Roberto Cavalli. The tiny 5ft tall star avoided being overwhelmed by her dress by keeping the neckline simple, the fit perfect and the fishtail fairly tame- and boy did it pay off!
She may not have been nominated for any awards on the night, but Kate Hudson was by far our ultimate winner in the style stakes. Rocking full-length black Alexander McQueen with gold embellishment and a cheeky keyhole cleavage, the actress looked every inch a superstar, keeping hair and make-up simple to allow the dress to do the talking.
Not many people could pull off this oh-so-sheer lace panelled dress, nevermind a 43-year-old mother of twins, but J-Lo totally made this Zuhair Murad gown her own. Flawless.
For her first public outing since the birth of her son back in October, Adele chose a stunning black Burberry gown with crystal-embellished neckline, accessorising with matching nail art. The 24-year-old singer gave an emotional acceptance speech, as she picked up the Best Original Song award for Bond theme, Skyfall.

After her winning all-white look at last week’s People’s Choice Awards, we had high hopes for Taylor Swift’s Golden Globes outfit. Sadly Swifty fell down where Hayden triumphed, allowing her eggplant Donna Karan dress to wear her, due to its poor fit and oversized fishtail.
Oh Halle. You’re so beautiful that we thought you’d look good in a bin bag, but last night’s Versace number proved us wrong. Too many cutouts, too much pattern, and don’t get us started on the ‘Angelina’ leg… fashion fail.
