|Sadly, my week of work experience at Scotcampus has come to an end. It’s been a great period and learning curve for me, and I’m happy to say that my first real taste of working in the industry was with such a fun, exciting publication.Coming from Stirling, Glasgow is still a bit of an other world to me, and with 10 minutes until my first day started, I still had no idea where I was! As it turned out, I had walked past the building several times. I made it in with minutes to spare and Aileen was very welcoming and immediately made me comfortable, which was easy in such a relaxed environment.I must admit that as I had never done work experience before, I was expecting to be spending my days making cups of coffee and running around, however my preconception couldn’t have been further from the truth. By the time we broke for lunch on the first day I had written two features, not a speed I’m used to when producing work at college, but one I’d prefer. Aileen set no boundaries for my writing and allowed me to produce any idea I had, no matter how ridiculous it was (thanks again, Jenna Marbles!)The rest of the week was filled with more of the same (features include celebrity aftershaves you would NEVER buy Idris Elba wrapping paper, hump day inspiration, Wolf of Wall Street GIFS and more!) and it was really fulfilling to see that workplaces do function in the way I’d imagined. Every idea I had was accepted, even the more ridiculous ones, and it was satisfying to see my work published somewhere other than my own blog. Churning out articles every day was great preparation for my future, and it’s made me even more determined to continue my journalism course and push myself for a job in the industry, hopefully at somewhere as great as Scotcampus.
To sign off, I’d just like to extend my gratitude to Aileen and everyone at Scotcampus for giving me this opportunity, and hopefully this won’t be the last time we work together. Good luck for Futures Fest, not that you need it, and all the best to Craig and his partner for the birth of their son!
