Interning with Scotcampus for the week has been so much fun and it’s made my drive to get a job working for a magazine grow ever stronger. Out of all the work experience placements I have been on, this week has by far gone in the fastest. It has allowed me to get all my article ideas floating around my brain box published and made the week an exciting and memorable experience.
Similar with all new internships I was nervous for my first day but this was a foolish thing to feel as the minute I walked in the door it was clear the Scotcampus office was a sociable environment that would welcome all your ideas, both Aileen and Craig are so welcoming and friendly they really make you feel like you’re a part of the Scotcampus family. During this week, it really is hard to believe it’s Friday already! I’ve had the chance to write lots of articles on many different topics and I have even had the chance to dip my toes back into the PR side of the industry helping promote Futures Fest 2014 on social media.
I started off the week getting really excited for the upcoming announcement on how we can get tickets for BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend and which artists we can be bopping along to at Glasgow Green in May, fingers crossed its Beyoncé. Alongside hoping Queen B comes back to Glasgow I’ve got my lucky charm at the ready to help me win the lottery so I can get my hands on one of British model and eyebrow icon, Cara Delevingne’s stunning Mulberry handbags – if anyone fancies giving this aspiring journo a wee present I’ll be happy with any bag, please and thank you.
One of the best days of the year, Pancake Day is just round the corner and I got the chance to write a feature on the best pancake recipes out there to stuff our faces with next Tuesday (4 March 2014) and it can’t come quick enough now with all the delicious savoury and sweet ideas available; keep an eye out for my perfect recipe ideas for those on a budget or ready to have a fancy Pancake Day.
Music journalism is my dream route for the future and here at Scotcampus I really have had the chance to thrive writing several articles for the music section including a nod to the Glasgow Garage set to celebrate their 20th birthday looking back at some of the big music acts to perform in the iconic venue, my list of top 5 gig venues in our city of music which will be featured on the new Scotcampus city guide app, All In One City. I even got the chance to write a review piece on the NME Awards 2014 detailing the highs and lows of the night and a sly little message to Alex Turner on how a winner’s speech should go…TAKE NOTE TURNER.
Working alongside promoting the Futures Fest 2014 I got the chance to write articles which will be held at The Arches on 18th & 19th March. I wrote an article on the procurement industry and the brilliant guest speakers that are coming along to Futures Fest to talk to people who are interested in or want to learn more about the purchase and supply industry and a little piece on how taking part in a study or working abroad scheme can work wonders with your CV and give you valuable life experience for future work prospects.
Definitely one of the best work placements I’ve ever been on with great banter, creativity and offerings of cake; who doesn’t love cake?
