If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to intern for an exciting new start-up company then you’ve come to the right place. Mallzee, the brainchild of Scottish entrepreneur Cally Russell, revolves around creating the perfect shopping experience- so far, SO up Scotcampus’ street! While we all know how convenient internet shopping is, there’s something nice about strolling down the high street with your friends and popping into all your favourite stores, which is exactly the feeling Mallzee are hoping to recreate online.
You pick your favourite shops; Mallzee turns them into your own personalised shopping mall. You select your size and style; Mallzee remembers them for future use. You invite your friends to browse with you; Mallzee lets them make wardrobe suggestions from wherever in the world they might be. Genius, no?
Mhairi Finlayson and Laura Faint are just two of the interns working hard to have Mallzee up and running for its launch later this year. They’ve kept a diary of their last week, letting you in on what’s going on behind the scenes at Mallzee and what it really takes to be the perfect intern, which will be featured on Scotcampus.com every day this week.

How did you become a Mallzee intern? I’d love for this to be an interesting story, but I saw the internship advertised on Gumtree and thought it sounded interesting, and I wanted the experience of working with a new, exciting fashion start-up.
Favourite thing about being a Mallzee intern? There is always something exciting and new going on in the office. I have learned loads and all of our ideas and opinions are always listened to. We do get the work done, but try not to take ourselves too seriously, so there is always some good office banter!
Future career dreams? I would love to work in PR or marketing for a fashion brand. I will know I have got to where I want to be when I’m the proud owner of a Chloe bag and a collection of Louboutin shoes!

How did you become a Mallzee intern? I was looking to gain some fashion experience in Glasgow during my final year of uni and saw that Mallzee were looking for interns. I thought that it would be a great experience to work within a start-up and I really loved the idea behind Mallzee. I thought it was great that Mallzee was filling a gap in the market and I was really keen to be a part of something so exciting. I was interning in London at the time, but I applied straight away, and started as soon as I got back!
Favourite thing about being a Mallzee intern? I really love being part of such an exciting new business. The team at Mallzee is great, everyone is so driven and motivated, so it’s great to work in that kind of environment- there’s always a real buzz in the office. I also appreciate how much I have learned working within a start-up company; it has allowed me to really learn about what it takes to start a business and how much hard work goes in. During my time at Mallzee I’ve also had the opportunity to meet some inspiring people and attend some really amazing events too!
Future career dreams? I want to work in the fashion industry, but I really do think that online is going to be the way forward. Interning at Mallzee has really opened my eyes to how exciting and dynamic web businesses can be, so I’d love to work in that area of fashion.
