January. It’s like one massive hangover really. Your wallet’s empty, your belly’s bloated and you’re not sure why you want to be spooned all the time, but you do. How exactly does one manoeuvre through such a shit month? Stylishly, of course. Dressing better = feeling better, so take off the onesie, put down the leftover Quality Street and get ready for a lesson in January dressing!
Layers Layers Layers
Now we’re not suggesting that you pile on so many wooly jumpers that you start to resemble the Michelin Man, but layers are the key to warmth and easy, casual style throughout January. Jersey is always super comfy, and popping a statement tee over a long sleeved base layer really doesn’t require much effort- or cash. Girls, hit up Forever21 for a classic breton striped number, which will see you through to spring and beyond, then head over to ASOS for a slogan tee to wear on top. We love this Queen Of The Universe option by Freddy- definitely one way to boost your confidence this month, and on sale for less than half price.
Guys, the same applies to you. Jersey layers = comfort one cannot find at the bottom of a bag of Kettle Chips. This sequin burger-adorned sweatshirt is not for the faint hearted, but wear it and reap praise from your previously more fashionable friends. A basic tee beneath ups the cosy factor.
Reasonably priced, good quality, well-fitting denim is often hard to come by; generally you end up sacrificing fit if you go for cheaper options. However, United Colors of Benetton have managed to combine quality, style and fit with their Pin-Up denim range. We love these dark blue skinny jeans, which have specially engineered fabric and stitching on the bum ,designed to shape and enhance any derriere. AMAZING!
For boys, skinny is the shape of things to come in 2013. We’re favouring River Island’s dark blue Sid skinnies, a snip at just £25, and oh-so-comfortable thanks to their stretch denim.
Try A New Trend
Just because you’re on a Christmas comedown doesn’t mean you can dodge all of the new season styles- why the heck would you want to? Providing you’re planning on venturing out of the house at all this month, we prescribe an Americana varsity jacket as an easy way to incorporate the S/S 2013 catwalks into your wardrobe. As seen at Loewe, Emerson and Charlotte Ronson, you know what they say: three’s a trend!
Guys, get cosy in this grey quilted version from ASOS (extra style points if you have hair like the model- what a hottie).
And ladies, party season may be over, but you can continue to sparkle in this Lashes of London sequined bomber. It may be a little pricey at £85, but think of it as a fashion investment, and an ultimate cheer-up tool.
We all know shoes can make or break the comfort factor of an outfit, so best to keep things simple. These men’s Lyle & Scott plimsoles are on sale for just £25 at Xile Clothing, while ladies can’t go wrong with classic white Converse.
So there you have it loyal readers: your January blues evaporated with a few classic wardrobe updates. The best part is, you probably already own at least one of the pieces on our list, or something super similar. Dig that statement t-shirt out of last year’s summer wardrobe, revamp it according to our suggestions, and spend the savings down the pub. No need to thank us…
