As the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards roll around, with performers at tonight’s Barclays Centre show said to include Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Kanye West and one big ‘ol *NSYNC reunion, we thought we’d take a look back at the ghost of VMA performances past. Now in its 30th year, we had plenty of all-singing, all-dancing stage moments to choose from, but these are our top 5 VMA performances of all time. Roll VT!
5. Madonna, Vogue, 1990
No one can “strike a pose” quite like the Queen of Pop, and this stylish performance back in 1990 shows she’s been doing it since before Scotcampus was born… Yikes.

4. Lady Gaga, Paparazzi, 2009
The outfit. The vocals. The moves. The manic piano playing. Lady Gaga’s 2009 performance of Paparazzi had it all.

3. Michael Jackson, Medley, 1995
If you’ve ever doubted the prowess of the late King of Pop, watch this 15-minute medley of his greatest hits at the 1995 VMAs, and you’ll see what all the fuss was about.

2. Beyoncé, Love On Top, 2011
While this was probably one of Queen Bey’s more tame performances, she had good reason to turn the tempo down, as she announced her pregnancy with a belly rub and a cheeky wink onstage.

1. Britney Spears, I’m A Slave 4 U, 2001
This performance may have had PETA up in arms, thanks to Britney writhing around the stage with a snake, but we think you’ll agree the pop princess has never looked hotter.
