Dietary goals are a fairly typical thing in the New Year, and I am no exception. As you can tell by this ongoing diary, food is important to me, and I want to make the most of it in 2016. So here’s some goals that I’ll be attempting this year to tickle my tastebuds.
Try More Vegetarian/Vegan Restaurants
Glasgow is a goldmine for veggies and vegans alike, from juice bars to a little bit of everything; there’s nothing stopping us herbivores from getting out there and treating ourselves to a good bit of grub. Not only will we be helping the businesses, there’s a much larger chance that we’ll try something we typically wouldn’t.
Eat More Vegan Dishes
As I’ve expressed previously, my interest in going vegan is slim to none at the moment but that doesn’t mean some of the food doesn’t intrigue me. Like how DO they live without cheese? There’s only one way to find out, tuck in.
Encourage Family To Eat More Meat Free Meals
My nut loaf went down a storm this Christmas with several family members commenting on how pleasantly surprised they were at my veggie dish. This has cemented the idea in my head that if they gave it a try, they’d actually appreciate a couple of meat free meals. Sometimes.
Cook More Homemade Veggie Food
I’ve became a slave to my good friend carbs since embarking on my vegetarian lifestyle and my waistline is just not okay with it. Aside from weight, I find myself regularly commenting on how lovely a vegetarian recipe sounds before muttering “Yeah maybe I’ll attempt that… one day”. Well no more, I am donning my apron and cooking up some culinary masterpieces. Pray the fire department won’t need called, please.
Give Meat Replacements A Second Chance
I won’t lie, my first journey into meat free alternatives left me a little scared. I’ve been avoiding soy like the plague and quickly rush my trolley past the Quorn section in Tesco. But I think it’s time to forgive and forget; this is a learning curve, there will be plenty of meat free masterpieces just waiting for me to take a bite. I hope.
So there we have it, 2016 for me is going to be a year of some exciting, new veggie food and I shall savour every mouthful. Tofu will become my go to, Quorn spaghetti Bolognese will be a family staple and sometimes I’ll give up the butter for some avocado on toast. Ooh, I can’t wait!
