The OC, our favourite Californian high school drama of all time, turned 10 this week – how old does that make you feel? If you happened to be the same age as Seth, Summer et al at the time of watching, then probably very old indeed, but if, like Scotcampus, you were a mere shrimp when your Tuesday nights revolved around getting home in time to tune in to E4 at 9pm, then maybe you don’t feel quite so bad. Maybe.

Not only did The OC have a truly awesome soundtrack (Phantom Planet’s California as its theme, The Killers casually performing Mr Brightside live at The Bait Shop), but it had some ridiculously wonderful storylines too. Who could forget Jimmy Cooper getting punched at cotillion after swindling all his neighbours’ money? Or ultra-high maintenance Summer running off to crusade for an environmental organisation? Or even Julie Cooper-Nichol having to choose between former flame Frank and rich-but-dumb Bullet? Ah, those were the days.
Here Scotcampus count down our top 10 moments from The OC; now can we have a reunion episode please?
10. Sandy Cohen Sings (Season 2, Episode 8)
Seth’s dad isn’t just a pair of eyebrows and a great bagel shmearer. Nope, Sandy Cohen can also sing, as he demonstrated when he performed Solomon Burke’s Don’t Give Up On Me at The Bait Shop for wife, Kirsten. What. A. Lad.

9. They All Live Happily Ever After… (Season 4, Episode 16)
Although we weren’t TOTALLY happy about The OC’s fourth and final season wrapping up in 16 episodes and flashing forward 5 years to try and make a feasible ending – something creator Josh Schwartz also did on Gossip Girl – we were really, really excited to see a Sethummer wedding and Ryan morphing into the new Sandy Cohen. YAY.

8. Ryan Speaks (Season 1, Episode 14)
Three words, eight letters… Which Ryan just can’t seem to get out. Until he saves the day on New Year’s Eve, that is. One of many examples of a perfectly soundtracked OC moment.

7. Summer Roberts: Drunk Prom Queen (Season 3, Episode 23)
How to make yourself feel better when you’ve fallen out with your other half and you both have to attend the same event? By getting really drunk and making a fool of yourself, of course! Summer Roberts: not so different to you and I.

6. “Whoever You Want Me To Be” (Season 1, Episode 1)
Original Ryan Atwood: a man of few words, who knows how to work a vest. Who knew that this couple would go on to become The OC‘s very own Romeo and Juliet… Except for the part where Romeo dies. Because Ryan doesn’t.

5. All Seth’s Chrismukkahs Come At Once (Season 1, Episode 13)
Remember when Seth had Summer and Anna fighting over him? Those were the days. Here the ladies show off their respective comic book-related talents – Summer Roberts: 1, Anna whatever her last name was: 0.

4. “I Wish I Was A Mermaid” (Season 4, Episode 13)
Taylor Townsend may have written it, but is there anything cuter than baby Summer Roberts nervously reading “I Wish I Was A Mermaid”? We think not. Except for maybe the bit when she pretends to be Scary Spice.

3. “Welcome To The OC, Bitch!” (Season 1, Episode 1)
We couldn’t have an OC countdown without featuring the goon that is Luke Ward. Despite the fact that he came good in the end, he was Seth and Ryan’s number one enemy back in season 1, and managed to sum up the entire pretence of the show with this one iconic line.

2. “What Are You Doing Here?” “What Do You Think, Cohen?” (Season 2, Episode 14)
Perhaps even hotter than the original Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire lip-lock, when Summer ditches boring Zach at the airport and finds Cohen hanging upside down in the rain with his Spiderman mask on, there was only one thing for it… Extra points for Matt Pond PA’s version of Champagne Supernova playing in the background.

1. “Acknowledge Me Now Or Lose Me Forever” (Season 1, Episode 20)
The only OC moment that could possibly beat the Spiderman kiss, is the coffee cart kiss. Paving the way for geeks everywhere, Seth Cohen got the girl – and he wanted the whole world to know it. Or at least the whole of the Harbour School, anyway.
