Whether your skin needs some major recovery after some extensive chocolate consumption, or you’re making sure that your New Year’s Eve pictures guarantee an instant profile pic update (the pressure is real); it’s all about the skincare prep to see out the year with a glow.
On another note, is anyone else a skincare hoarder? Please tell me I’m not the only one. What happened to the days of a half-hearted splash of Clearasil face wash…
Step 1: Cleanse
Freshen up and remove all traces of that Christmas-themed festive blusher…
The Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel is the ultimate cleanser according to some of my favourite beauty bloggers (thanks for the enabling Vivianna Does Makeup and Kate La Vie). A rosy-pink gel that turns into a creamy balm-like texture with water, the Pumpkin enzymes and vitamins get to work to leave your skin glowing and ready for the night ahead.
The Olay Eye Makeup Remover is my own no-frills Holy Grail product. For a girl who was initially scared to touch her eyelashes and wear mascara (ha), this creamy remover easily takes off any type of eye make-up, from waterproof mascara to the hardest-wearing liquid eyeliner.
Just be sure to have it on hand for the after-party if you don’t want to wake up with your eyes practically glued together because of some over-zealous glitter eyeshadow applications.
If you’re more likely to be crawling into bed post 4am on New Year’s Eve, the Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Cleansing Water and a cotton pad will be your best friend.
Step 2: Tone & Purify
Make the most of your squeaky clean face by indulging in some pre-party pampering. If you’ve got the day before already scheduled for prep (respect), pat on the Lush Mask of Magnaminty face mask to take down redness and erase any tell-tale marks of Boxing Day late-night parties.
For a quick fix, the Pixi Glow Tonic (now found in M & S!) will exfoliate and brighten, leaving the skin perfectly primed for some much-needed moisture (hello Liz Earle Spritzer and Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturiser).
Step 3: Soften up
With a gradual tanning moisturiser like this little St. Tropez Gradual Tan number (picked up on offer at Superdrug), there’s no risk of the party pictures being ruined by tell-tale streaky arms and bright orange tans. Build up the layers or keep it simple with a festive-themed Body Shop body butter.
The finishing touch to your pre-party routine? This Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm from the beauty aisles of Marks & Spencer will solve chapped lips just in time for any moments of the clock-striking-midnight variety…
The beauty about this routine?
You can even repeat it on New Year’s Day when you’re feeling significantly less fresh…
