Vintage fashion has become a staple in our everyday wardrobe. The key is knowing where to find the best and authentic vintage in your price range. On that note, we’ve searched the cities of Scotland to come up with our top 10 places to shop vintage in Scotland.
1. Starry Starry Night
19 Dowanside Lane, Glasgow, G12 9BZ
Tucked away down Dowanside Lane, in Glasgow’s West End, Starry Starry Night is the epitome of vintage with its quirky interior and antique charm, this is definitely not another charity shop masquerading as vintage. The small store specialises in both antiques and fashion from the 1920s onward.
2. Herman Brown
151 West Port, Edinburgh, EH3 9DP
The popular store is stocked with vintage from all over including; London, Munich and Seattle. The owners are always on the lookout for new sources, so if you’re looking for something no one else will have, this is definitely the place to go! Its definitely quality of quantity and that’s reflected in their excellent vintage finds.
3. The Closet
31 Jopps Lane, Aberdeen, AB25 1BX
This tiny shop is full of exciting vintage finds from the 60s to 80s. It’s small size means it’s packed full, so you’ll have to search every nook and cranny but don’t worry, it’s good quality. It may not be the cheapest but The Closet will even take personal requests to find or create something special for you.
4. Granny Would Be Proud Vintage & Craft Fair
Hillhead Bookclub, 17 Vinicombe Street, Glasgow G12 8BH
This vintage fair is perfect for lovers of all things vintage, kitsch and crafts. Each stall has its own unique offerings with independent designers occupying the room. 5. Rara and the Pretty Vacant Showrooms
29 Exchange Street, DD1 3DJ, Dundee
Founded by a young designer in 2008, this is the place to go for vintage in Dundee. The shop has an eclectic mix of classic wares, retro garments and kitsch t-shirts with new stock coming in on a regular basis and uniquely the store has a large gents sections. Hidden down a small cobbled street you’ll have to look hard to find it.
6. Armstrong’s Vintage

Established in 1840, Armstrong’s is one of Scotland’s longest running vintage providers. The success of the first store in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket led to a further 2 stores being opened in the city. With each store containing different stock it’s well worth a visit to each of them. The staff have endless vintage knowledge and are always willing to help you put together an outfit.
7. Vintage Guru
195 Byres Road, Glasgow, G12 8TN
This is what could be considered a modern vintage shop, its pretty small and lacks that vintage smell we all loves but this shop in Glasgow’s West End has one of the best vintage bag collections you’ll come across. Unlike a lot of other vintage shops it also holds a great selection of men’s tailored vintage.
8. The Frayed Hem
45 Cockburn Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1BS
Clutter free vintage shop, is it possible? Yes, it’s clutter free but still has all the same vintage goodies! It’s great for those shoppers who aren’t willing to spend hours trawling through rail after rail of vintage. Just off the Royal Mile in Edinburgh the shop is in an excellent location. The Frayed Hem has a quick turnaround and if you’re looking for a steal they have a bargain rail with everything on it for £5 or under!
9. Saratoga Trunk
Unit 10, 61 Hydepark Street, Glasgow, G3 8BW
Without a doubt Saratoga Trunk is Scotland’s best kept vintage secret, boasting the largest range of vintage clothes in Scotland. The Saratoga warehouse contains clothes and props from every era, from Victorian all the way to the ‘90s to hire or buy. Used by television and theatre groups the prices are not cheap, this place is for serious vintage buyers. Although it is open to the public, an appointment is necessary, so make sure you book first!

If independent design is what you’re looking for then Godvia Boutique is just the ticket. They are experts in reworked vintage, helping them stand out from a lot of the other shops that simply price up hand me downs. Their one off items come at a price but it’s well worth it if you’re looking for something special!
