Don’t be a jive turkey – ENTER our Festive Poultry Poser!
If you and your flatmates all chip in, cooking a Christmas dinner together can be a great way to celebrate the end of term and a cheaper alternative to a fancy meal out. But the fact that we tend to cook for more people than usual at Christmas and perhaps with a bigger bird than you’re used to, means you’re likely to have plenty of food left. Leftovers can be a student’s best friend – make Christmas go further and keep safe with our advice:
* Store leftovers covered in the fridge and polish them off within two days. If reheating your leftovers, do so until steaming hot throughout, to destroy food poisoning bugs.
* Your freezer is your friend: Freezing your leftovers can help them last even longer. Once food is in the freezer it can be safely stored for a considerable time – enjoy your Christmas turkey next term!
* Defrost leftovers in the fridge overnight or in the microwave if you are going to cook/eat them straight away. Eat defrosted leftovers within 24 hours and do not refreeze.
BUT – with a turkey or any poultry, you must ensure it is cooked properly in the first place! For your chance to win one of two £50 Amazon vouchers answer the following question:
