While for many Scots this past weekend was all about rocking out to RiRi at T In The Park, Wireless was the place to be for one member of Team Scotcampus, who partied in the desert heat of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – which turned out to be the biggest, most spread out festival venue we’ve ever experienced. Slightly problematic when you’ve got ten minutes to get from will.i.am’s banging Pepsi Max tent disco to Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake‘s three-hour Main Stage extravaganza, via some sort of food, but seriously impressive if you decide to fly there on the zip-line.
With Justin headlining the Friday of Wireless, Jay-Z the Saturday, and both coming together to perform the only European date of their Legends Of The Summer tour on Sunday, deciding which day to attend was a no-brainer. The fact that we only arrived home from Ibiza at 4am on the Sunday morning was an entirely secondary factor in our purchase of tickets.
From surprise guests to all-out banging sets, here are Scotcampus’ top five favourite moments from the closing day of Yahoo! Wireless Festival 2013…
5. Yahoo! silent disco
Headphones, two opposing radio stations and hundreds of festival revellers made for the most hilarious silent disco we’ve ever been to. Nicki Minaj vs. Queen was a definite highlight – cue flailing arms for Don’t Stop Me Now and booty shakes to Pound The Alarm. Scotcampus opted for a hybrid. Which is basically a chicken dance.
4. Jessie Ware warming us up
Fashionably late as always, Scotcampus rocked up to Wireless just in time to see Jessie Ware’s set and, as usual, girlie and her signature hoop earrings killed it. Wildest Moments? Try Wireless Moments. This was one of the best.
3. will.i.am droppin’ beats
will.i.am not only impressed with his vocals, but his DJ skills, charisma and general ability to drop a frickin’ amazing beat. Blowing the roof off the Pepsi Max tent for an hour, Will hit festival goers with a mixture of his own hits and Black Eyed Peas’ classics, getting everyone ready for what turned out to be a very, very good night.
2. A$AP: Always Strive And Prosper
If A$AP Rocky’s aim was to be the name on every Wireless dweller’s lips on Sunday, boy done good. Rocking out on the Main Stage, A$AP wowed the crowd with tracks such as Wild For The Night and Purple Swag… And wowed Scotcampus with his amazing pink shoes.
1. RiRi running London Town with Jay-Z & Justin
As if seeing Jigga Man and Justin T on stage together for almost three hours wasn’t enough, the boys flew Rihanna down from T in the Park to join them for a single song – namely Run This Town, which was originally recorded by Jay-Z, RiRi and Kanye West – and girlfriend absolutely killed it. Never underestimate the power of Ms. Robyn Fenty.
